Make available choices visible

A choice board puts options together so someone can see what is available. Skillberry Visuals lets adults prepare visual choices on iPhone and iPad using pictures and labels suited to the activity.

Offer options that are available now

You might show two play activities, a set of books, or a choice between art materials. Include options you can actually offer and choose an amount of information that fits the person and setting.

The board presents choices; it does not decide what someone wants. Adults can use it alongside the person's existing ways of communicating, including speech, gestures, or a separate communication system.

Use familiar pictures, labels, and sound

Skillberry includes library images and supports adding personal photos and labels. A photo of an actual item may help make the available option concrete. The app also provides text-to-speech and custom recording features for audio-supported visuals; check the available controls and plan access in your installed version.

Save boards for recurring activities and organize visuals in profiles and folders. Update the choices when the available items or activities change.

Choices are different from a schedule

A choice board presents options. A schedule shows a planned sequence, and a First Then board shows a two-part sequence. If a person chooses an activity and you then want to show what follows, those tools can serve different parts of the routine.

Parents, caregivers, teachers, and professionals can use choice boards in home, school, clinic, and community routines. Skillberry is not presented as a comprehensive AAC system or a substitute for an individual's communication supports. Download the app to see available choices, images, and audio controls before deciding whether it fits your needs.
